Highlights from the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships

Shaun White dominated. What else is new?  Well, Finland's Peetu Piironen was the most consistent rider in both the Halfpipe and Slopestyle. If they scored by most accumulated popints, he wins both contests. But they score by best run, so White won both. Peetu did take home the Burton Global Open (BGOS) series honors for a season of podium finishes. Kevin Pierce, one of the riding FRENDs, took the Ticket To Ride (TTR) Tour championship with a 3rd place finish on t he pipe.

Torah Bright continued her ascent to the top of the class of  the women's pipe riders with a win that also clinched the BGOS title for the ever-smiling Aussie. Kelly Clark was second, Gretchen Bleiler third, and in  the biggest surprise of the weekend, Hannah Teter didn't make the finals. Jamie Anderson took second to Kjersti Buaas in the Slopestyle. The podium finish helped her on the way to the women's TTR title that she secured the following week in the Roxy Chicken Jam at Mammoth.

Jersey boy Tim Humphreys scored big at the Open, finishing second in the Slopestyle and taking home top honors in the Big Air. The big open performance was a fitting cap on his breakout season.
